What is a Google Ads Claude connector?
A Google Ads Claude connector links Claude AI directly to your live Google Ads account using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Instead of exporting CSVs, copying data into spreadsheets, or switching between dashboards — you just ask Claude in plain English and it reads, analyses, and acts on your account in real time.
AdvertisingMCP is the connector. It's a small piece of server software that sits between Claude and the Google Ads API, built by a Google Ads marketer with 10+ years of hands-on PPC experience. Every default, every safety check, and every audit benchmark comes from that real-world experience — not a generic AI guessing what good PPC looks like.
Works on the free Claude plan. Claude's free tier supports MCP connectors — you don't need Claude Pro to get started. A paid plan gives you more messages per session, which helps when running multiple audits in one go, but it's not required.
What can Claude do with your Google Ads account?
Once connected, you manage Google Ads with Claude AI through natural language. Here are the most common things people do right after setup:
Audit
"Audit my Google Ads account for the last 30 days" — full structured report: ROAS by campaign, visibility scores, wasted spend, keyword gaps, match type issues.
Diagnose
"Why is my ROAS down this month?" — Claude pulls live stats, identifies which campaign is dragging the average, and explains the cause.
Build
"Build a Search campaign for this product page" — Claude reads your landing page, writes ad groups, keywords and ad copy, creates everything PAUSED for your review.
Research
"Research competitor.com and find keywords we're missing" — Claude fetches their pages, compares against your keyword list, and surfaces exact gaps to add.
Negative keywords
"Add account-level negatives for these irrelevant terms" — Claude proposes the list, waits for your yes, then applies it across Search, Shopping and Performance Max.
Performance Max
"Set up a PMax campaign for this client" — Claude writes headlines, descriptions, reuses existing account images, and builds the full asset group in one go.
How to connect Google Ads to Claude — the setup
There are two setup paths depending on whether you're an individual account owner or an agency. Both take under 5 minutes.
In Google Ads, go to: Admin → Access and security → Add user
Paste the service account email from your dashboard. Set the role to Standard and click Send. That's all Google Ads needs from you.
Click Generate URL in your dashboard. Then in Claude:
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector
Paste your URL, name it "AdvertisingMCP", and set tools to Always approve so Claude doesn't ask permission for every read action. (Claude still waits for your explicit yes before writing anything to your account.)
MCC covers all client accounts. Enter your MCC ID once and Claude can list, audit, and manage every sub-account underneath it. No per-account fees, no extra setup per client.
Quick path — use our service account
Add our service account email (shown in your dashboard) as a
Standard user in your MCC. All sub-accounts are covered automatically. Change history in client accounts will show "AdvertisingMCP".
Agency path — use your own service account
Create a Google Cloud service account under your own company. Clients will see
your agency name in their change history, not AdvertisingMCP. Set this up once in
Agency Setup — takes about 10 minutes and uses the same MCP URL. This also unlocks
Search Console as an extra data source, letting Claude compare organic queries against your paid keyword list.
Generate your URL in your dashboard, then in Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector
After connecting, just say: "List all accounts" — then "Audit the [client name] account". Claude targets the right one automatically.

You're connected. Open Claude and try:
"Audit my Google Ads account"
"Which campaigns are wasting money?"
"Find keywords I'm missing from my landing page"

Is it safe to connect Claude to Google Ads?
The safety controls in AdvertisingMCP aren't instructions Claude is told to follow — they're built into the server code and can't be overridden by any prompt or leaked URL.
New campaigns are always created PAUSED. Nothing can go live or spend money until you manually enable it in the Google Ads UI. Budgets cannot be changed through the connector at all — there's simply no tool for it. And every write action (keywords, ads, campaigns) shows you the full plan and waits for your explicit yes before doing anything.
Worst case if your MCP URL leaks: someone can create paused campaigns and add keywords — but nothing spends. You'll see it in your activity log and can regenerate your URL in one click to cut off access immediately.
Bonus: add Search Console as a data source
If you set up your own Google Cloud service account (the agency path above), AdvertisingMCP can also connect to Google Search Console. This lets Claude compare your organic search queries against your paid keyword list and find terms getting organic impressions that have no paid coverage — often the highest-ROI keyword additions you can make.
Just ask: "Find organic search queries with no paid keyword coverage" — Claude pulls both data sources and shows you the gaps.
Do I need a paid Claude plan?
No. Claude's free plan supports MCP connectors and you can run audits, research competitors, and build campaigns without paying for Claude at all. A paid Claude plan (Pro or higher) gives you more messages per session, which is helpful if you're running several audits in one conversation — but it's not a requirement to get started.
How this differs from Windsor.ai, Ryze AI, or Supermetrics: those are general-purpose data pipelines that happen to support Claude. AdvertisingMCP is a purpose-built Google Ads Claude connector — it writes back to your account, creates campaigns, manages keywords, and ships with built-in PPC audit logic. No usage caps, no per-account fees, and it works with a single MCC connection for all your client accounts.
Common questions
Does this work in claude.ai and Claude Desktop?
Yes — the same MCP URL works in both. claude.ai in the browser and the Claude Desktop app both support custom connectors. Set it up once and it works everywhere.
What permissions does the service account need?
Standard access in Google Ads is all that's needed. You don't need Admin access. Standard access allows Claude to read data and make changes (keywords, campaigns, ads) — which is exactly what the connector needs.
Can I use my own Google Cloud service account?
Yes, and for agencies this is the recommended path. Your clients will see your company name in their change history instead of AdvertisingMCP, and you unlock Google Search Console as an extra data source. Set it up in Agency Setup — it's a one-time step.
How do I switch between client accounts?
Just tell Claude which account to work on: "List all my accounts" then "Audit the [client name] account". Claude picks the right one and stays on it for the rest of the conversation unless you say otherwise.
Is my Google Ads data stored anywhere?
No. Everything is fetched live from the Google Ads API on each request and returned directly to you. Nothing is persisted or stored on our end. Your MCP token is the only thing we save, and you can regenerate or revoke it at any time.
